Well we are home and we really cannot complain about our Sami B. She has had and will have ups and downs as she transitions into our family. One of the biggest adjustments that we have had to make ASAP is in diapers and clothing. NOTHING FITS! Sami B. is Chunky G!...as in a chunky girl. She weighs 25.8 lbs. This is from a under 3 lbs premature baby! She is now 15 months. We had size 12-18 month clothes and size 3 diapers. So much for that! We have been scrambling to get bigger diapers and clothes. The size 3 diapers go up to 28 lbs, but her legs are so fat that they won't fit!. It looks like 24 months is going to be the order of the day.
Her trip home:
She was not very nice to Jan...poor Jan. Jan was a trooper and so sweet about the whole thing. Sami B. is very sweet, but was very angry about being taken from her foster mom. Sami has not been as angry with us, just fairly resistant to affection for the most part. She is coming around and she wants to be held now. She sleeps in her crib in our room part of the time and in our bed with us the other time. It is like sleeping with a baby bull dozer. She is just very restless and moves a lot. She has been sleeping OK, with periods of waking, then a bottle and back to sleep. Our other kids are doing fine for the most part.
We took our 12 year old son with us to LA to get Sami. He was a basket case on Saturday with major behavior problems and just plain wacky all day. He was better today and was more normal acting and likes to play with Sami. It was his first time to fly, so that was a big deal. We had someone donate a SW ticket (PTL) so we could afford to let him go with us.
Jintry loves her baby sister and was very offended when Sami did not love her back at the airport when we first arrived. Jintry was so sad when Sami would not sit on her lap. She burried her head in her hands and sobbed, "She doesn't love me!" I explained that Sami did not like or love anybody very much right now, but that she would soon.
We have had a few smiles and laughs from Sami. For the most part she is just sits and plays quietly and does not do much. She is eating OK, but gags on anything that is not totally mashed up like baby food.
Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers!!
Thank you also for those who have donated to the matching grant. We are so grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity. I will try to update on this soon. We have been obviously busy and have not received the latest report on this for the week.
I will try to post new pictures over the next few days, so stay tuned!!
